Dates in Croatian Church Documents: Part 2 of 2 (see here for part 1).

Purpose: To show examples of how dates are presented in Croatian church documents. This page focuses on reading numbers; for examples of months, see here. These examples are taken from various Stanja Dus"a of the Konavle region.

28 April, 1837 Not all 7's have a line through the stem.
7 October, 1837 8bre is abbreviation for October.
1 November, 1839 Abbrev. for November this time is 9br; Dot between 1 and 9 shows that it's not 19.
14 July, 1839 Month is Lug., not Aug.
28 December, 1839 xbr = December.
29 September, 1839 7bre is abbreviation for September.
30 July, 1840 Month is Lug, not Aug.
7 March, 1841 .
25 March, 1842 First digit of year is left off.
6 November[?], 1842 Not sure of the month here; it looks like 9br or maybe 7br.
8 May, 1842 .
31 March, 184[3?] li = on; 1st digit of year is left off; Looks like it might
be 1813 but context (other dates around it) has it in the 1840s; could possibly be 1848.
5 November, 1843 1st digit of year is missing; the 8 looks like it might be a 9 but all dates around it were in the 1840s.
9 November, 1844 1st digit of year is left off.
19 November, 1844 9bre = November.
17 June, 1847 li = on
26 July, 1848 7 has no cross in stem; First 2 digits of year are left out.
14 December, 1853 .
15 September, 1853 Month = Sett:
29 October, 1853 Month = ott
5 September, 1854 Month = Sett:
15 May, 1857 1st digit of year is left off. This type of mess is not uncommon.
